I’ve just recently enrolled in the Ateneo Graduate School of Business Cebu’s Regis MBA program and set to start class on September 14th. The Regis program is pretty tailor cut for working people like me, taking only two Saturdays a month and running over 2 months for each course. I’m really looking forward to getting started.
I have to be honest. For a long time, I wasn’t a believer in post-graduate studies. Yes, I thought it would be nice to have that additional degree in your resume and maybe even attached to your name. I also knew I could definitely learn a few useful things. But overall, I just couldn’t imagine how it would actually make a significant impact on my career trajectory.
Recently though, an MBA just started making a lot more sense. More than a year ago, I started working with a group of friends on a software business called ATeam Business Software Solutions. While I was no stranger to management, the experience thus far has led me to see so many aspects to business that I’ve yet to learn. The trial and error process is a whole lot of fun for me. In the end though, I realize a little fundamental knowledge would go a long way.
I’ve also often read about how MBAs are a great opportunity to build a solid network of people that could be a great source of both insights and potential partners to build and grow a business with. “Networking” is not my cup of tea, that’s for sure. But I’ve avoided it for long enough and I figure it’s about time to make a few solid contacts.
Overall, getting an MBA, to me, means another step out of my comfort zone. After I moved jobs a few months ago following a solid 12 years in the same company, I realized how liberating it was to do something that scared me. This is yet another thing I couldn’t imagine doing years back that I want to add to the list of challenges I’ve faced head on.
I can’t be 100% sure whether this program can give me all the advantages and growth I’m looking for – at least not until a few classes in – but I’m super excited to find out where it takes me. Regardless of how it turns out, just taking the risk feels like a good start. Looking forward to writing updates on the things I learn.
