Hi, I’m Derwin Dexter Sy and this is my blog. This is where I write about my thoughts and experiences from my work as a manager in the software and tech industry. First off, I’m really glad you’re here!
I started TechManagement.Life soon after I moved into my second and current management job. After 12 years in a large, corporate setting working in both engineering and management capacities, I decided to take a leap and explore the startup scene. That’s when I joined Synacy, a software company in Cebu, Philippines with a team of about 30 brilliant software engineers and product teams.
The contrast in the experiences I’ve had in my first and second jobs led me to realize there’s an incredible wealth of learning still to be had in my work in management. That’s in addition to what I’ve already been through in my decade or so in the tech industry.
I also realized a lot of people are probably going through the same rough transition I had when I first moved from a software engineer role to a manager role. This is my attempt to help.
I write about people and things I come across in my work and talk about how it might translate to the general experience. Hopefully, some nuggets of information turn out to be a treasure trove for engineering managers, both new and experienced.
I’d like to thank my lovely wife, Gen, for all the work she put into helping make this blog a reality. She designed the “unplug” logo, helped me set up the site and the social media pages, and continues to give me great input on my writing. She and our daughter Harper also inspire me every day to think deeply about human experience, which I like to write about from time to time.
I’m looking forward to hearing your thoughts on the topics I write about. I know there’s two sides to every story and everyone’s individual experiences are unique. I’d love to know more about yours, so do drop me a comment in my posts or contact me if you have suggestions or thoughts you want to share in more detail.
